To contact the site email Dave davmckenz@aol.com or Sheila sheilan@bethere.co.uk .  Material has been received from Harry Parker (HGS 1936-40). Photos have been received from Mr. Parkinson (HGS Staff member 1960-67). These include an unknown Third Form 1960-61. Could you please let us know the name of the Form? Letters written by Major Jenkinson to pupils and staff of the first school at which he was Headmaster are now on the site's School History Section. If you have a Prefects photo for 1955-56 or 1959-60 could you please let the site have a copy? Thank you.

The Forms Index

Having been to four secondary schools before I had the good fortune of attending H.G.S. for the Sixth Form, I can say the experience far surpassed all previous schools. I have fond memories of the inspirational staff and the other sixth form students.

►"This vast new access to the past is an incredible experience. Having made contact with many ex-pupils from various stages of life, I think we are designed to 'grow old' slowly, readjusting to 'age' gradually and gently. Just quickly glancing at our reflection. This is all a bit of a sudden shock. What we were. Things that could have been. Opportunities taken and missed."
Peter Kaye

►"I always had the suspicion that our placement in the First Forms depended not only on our ages, but on the quality of the results of the 11-plus examinations we took at our junior schools. Of course there would have to be the evening out of numbers so that classes were roughly the same size, but it's interesting that as the 50's gave way to the new educational philosophies of the 60's (which seemed to be embarrassed about selection on merit), those new First forms appeared under the smoke-screen of Celts and Danes etc. I don't think they fooled anyone."
Sheila Kelsall

►"If you had other sisters or brothers at HGS, then you went into same House. When you started at the school, you went into one of the four classes: Celts, Danes, Normans and Romans. Which one you went in depended upon your birthdate e.g. if you were born in March, you went into Danes 1. It was however possible to move to another group in year 2."
Glenn Riley

►"Looking at the photographs on the web site gave me a funny feeling. The faces were so familiar and yet so strange at the same time."
