A distant view taken from the road to Kinsley and Fitzwilliam. The trees in the middle distance are part of what is left of the North Walk. Beyond them is the Horse Chestnut Tree which was in the centre of the 440 yards running track and near to the cricket square. It features in several photos on this site. In the distance on the left is the Sports Hall which was built on the 1st XV rugby pitch. In the centre is the gym with its changing rooms. They are still much the same - as are the Science Rooms on the right. The car parking is definitely an innovation. The soccer pitch in the foreground was used by the Hilmians Rugby Club for several years before they acquired their own grounds.

Immediately beyond the near car park and the North Walk trees would have been the cricket pavilion which was very much at the centre of many a Sports Day. The Science block is as many of us will remember it. Physics would have been taught by Mr. Woodcock and then Mr. Booth in the top right room (Form Room of 5S 1960). Biology was taught by Mr. Knox in the bottom right room for the Sixth Form pupils 1960-62.
