1940 Miss. Linley of Bath
The pupils of Hemsworth Grammar School gave a performance of Mary Sheridan's romantic drama "Miss. Linley of Bath", in the school hall on Wednesday afternoon and last night. The action of the play is in 1772, and it was well-produced by Mr. J.A. Storer and Miss. E. Bromley. The scenery was painted by Mr. J.D. Hamilton and effects were in the charge of two schoolboys, Jagger and Marsden. There were 14 characters and F. Hart was a charming heroine, Elizabeth Ann Linley, while A. Younge was effective as the hero, Richard Brinsley Sheridan, and M. Chapman scored a "hit" as the villain, Thomas Matthews. Other prominent parts are taken by E. Harper, E. Clayton and D.M. McAllister; the cast being completed by A. Johnson, J. Milner, D. Park, J. Dean, J. Halsall, J. Gill, A. Dunn and P. Freeman. A performance for council school children was given on Tuesday afternoon. The proceeds were for local war charities and the school fund.

1941 Arms and the Man
Pupils of Hemsworth Grammar School gave their first play by George Bernard Shaw on Wednesday and Thursday, when they presented "Arms and the Man". An outstanding performance was given by Neil Butterwood (Major Petkoff) and other players were Kathy Hardy (Raina Petkoff), J. Halsall (Bluntschil), Wendy Carter (Louka), Barbara Pratt (Catherine Petkoff), A. Dunn (Nicola) and J. Needham (Russian Officer). The play was produced by Miss G. M. Garman and Miss O. Pennington and the stage manager was Mr. L. T. Hyde. Scenery was arranged by Mr. J. D. Hamilton, assisted by P. Johnson and A. Chapman and other helpers were Jean Burton (properties), Joyce Tomlinson and Joan Wilson (wardrobe), Joan Maw (prompter), H. Garbett, F.Oldroyd and T. Scott (electricians), and Miss M. H. Parry (business manager).
