Scientific Society
1962
This new society was formed to create an out-of-class interest in Science. Divided into three sections, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, the Society caters for a wide range of interests, and several long-term projects have been undertaken.
Two general meetings have been held. The first, a Balloon Debate, was poorly attended, owing to the coincidence of several House matches. However, the sparse audience was almost unanimous in its choice of Faraday as the greatest scientist. The second meeting was well attended. A film about locusts, 'The Ruthless Ones' was shown, and Mr. Biggs filled out the programme with his first hand knowledge of the locust problem in Australia. Some representatives of the Arts side were present at these meetings; it is hoped that many more will find time to attend next year.
The elected committee for this year was: Wass, Harrison, Redhead, Christine Nicholson, Caldwell, Hryschko, Hudson and Thompson. In a single term, the Scientific Society has gained great support and strength. We can look forward to next year with confidence.
