To contact the site email Dave davmckenz@aol.com or Sheila sheilan@bethere.co.uk .  Material has been received from Harry Parker (HGS 1936-40). Photos have been received from Mr. Parkinson (HGS Staff member 1960-67). These include an unknown Third Form 1960-61. Could you please let us know the name of the Form? Letters written by Major Jenkinson to pupils and staff of the first school at which he was Headmaster are now on the site's School History Section. If you have a Prefects photo for 1955-56 or 1959-60 could you please let the site have a copy? Thank you.

Scientific Society

1962
This new society was formed to create an out-of-class interest in Science. Divided into three sections, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, the Society caters for a wide range of interests, and several long-term projects have been undertaken.

Two general meetings have been held. The first, a Balloon Debate, was poorly attended, owing to the coincidence of several House matches. However, the sparse audience was almost unanimous in its choice of Faraday as the greatest scientist. The second meeting was well attended. A film about locusts, 'The Ruthless Ones' was shown, and Mr. Biggs filled out the programme with his first hand knowledge of the locust problem in Australia. Some representatives of the Arts side were present at these meetings; it is hoped that many more will find time to attend next year.

The elected committee for this year was: Wass, Harrison, Redhead, Christine Nicholson, Caldwell, Hryschko, Hudson and Thompson. In a single term, the Scientific Society has gained great support and strength. We can look forward to next year with confidence.
Mick Harrison, UVIS

1963
The Scientific Society has had a different approach to its meetings this year. The separate groups have combined for a series of lectures on various topics, including 'The Origin of Life', 'Antibiotics', 'Liquid Air!, 'Radiation and Man', and a scientist's view of his visit to Russia. These have been given by lecturers from the Bradford Institute of Technology.

The Junior Section of the Society has continued its study of crystals under the direction of Mrs. Williams.
We wish to acknowledge the help given by the Science staff, especially Mr. Owen, and hope the Society will have increased support next year
