School Sports, Thursday, July 12th
For the School Sports this year we were honoured to welcome Mrs. Poxton, one of our Governors, as Guest of Honour. Before presenting the trophies, she expressed the hope that our standards in sport would continue to rise.

One of the most pleasing features of this year's meeting was the keen competition for the Junior 'Victor Ludorum'. This is a good sign for the future and I think even the runners-up will agree that a hard-fought contest is more satisfying than an easy victory.

Ten records were broken and three records established in new events.

No one House dominated the competition. Holgate by their efforts throughout the term won the Standards Cup, Talbot the Relay Cup and Price again carried off the Championship Cup.

The new Junior Athletes Cup, given to the School by Mr. Leonard, was won by Dilys Hughes.

The School Gymnasium was being built at that time.

Thirteen records were set up - eight by boys and five by girls - at the 35th annual sports of Hemsworth Grammar School last Thursday. Brian Moore and C. Hellewell retained the senior and junior Victor Ludorum Cups, and Moore again won the half-mile plaque and Jenkinson Cup.
