"Hemsworth Grammar School has always remained very high in my affections since I joined the Staff in 1956. I remember well Mr. Hamilton, the Head at the time I was there (photo above), and enjoyed the relationship I had with him on the Sports field at cricket and hockey. He was always encouraging and thrilled by the success of his pupils. He was a fine headmaster. The Staff were great companions and very keen for the youngsters to do well." |
"The HGS web site has brought much pleasure to many old students who are now scattered throughout many distant corners of the world. That these former students have succeeded in many fields of endeavour is to the great credit of the two Headmasters and their many staff." |
"What is also obvious, is the quality of teaching throughout the school and the influence it must have made on us, judging from the number of us who went into teaching." |
"Many of us had a great deal for which to thank the staff of H.G.S. who helped to shape our values and develop our personalities - and none moreso than the revered R.W. Hamilton, who did his utmost to bring 'pride' and 'standing' to the school. Indeed, the verses of the 'School Song' encapsulated both his personal and educational philosophies; that you get out of life, what you are prepared to put into it." |
"R.W. Hamilton was proud of his school. I was teaching there when he retired at Christmas 1967 and I think what happened to the place upset him. It upset many of us who had been pupils there and later returned as staff." |
